In the last two decades and at a high speed we've watched the transformation of the small fishing village of Dubai in one the main touristic destinations of the world. With several world Guinness records like the tallest building "Burj Khalifa" or the most luxurious hotel of the world "Burj al Arab" Dubai has become one of today's most well known cities .In this process, architecture seems to have played an important role. It was through the spectacularity, exuberance and luxury of the built projects that Dubai has attracted not only the media but also thousands of tourists around the world. As a marketing campaign, the buildings, valued only by their image, seem to have been reduced to mere products by which the city promotes itself. Products where architecture reduces itself to an image, an experience; in its essence a spectacle. In or...
I want, when I die, to be buriedClose to the naïve and meek Ocean,Shall it pray at midnight on a hurt voiceThe final prayers of my rest ...1Architecture for the absence. An eternal farewell, bounded by several memories. Houses ofthe ethereal, with spaces for the faithful departed and for the living. Connection between realityand alienation, transcendence. Paths of meditation and recollection, filled with symbolism anddevotion, inducing us relentlessly toward the imposed celestial ending: the confrontation withdeath. The relationship between man and the cessation of life is the sum expression of funeraryarchitecture. A drawing inspired by death, its rituals and secrets, understood and conceived as anintimate space capable of soothing the healing process of a sore soul, by perpetuating memoriesthat will build the city itself. Currently, w...
It is recognized in the contemporary city a
urban dispersion and a lack of “human” meaning, the
city is divided between the formal and the informal
areas resulting in a borderline that stimulates the
social exclusion. In this borderline line, comes public
space, the space between and that brings together
the opposites. In order to the humanization and the
thinning of the limits is considered necessary, as Jorge
Jáuregui points, a existence of intervention strategies
that balance the local and city needs and interests for
a connected contemporary city4, as Aldo Van Eyck says
“(…) a city like a large house (…)5.
Music is considered a possible tool of
intervention in the city, with social and urban qualities.
Its social qualities are recognized since Plato and
Aristotle for its power of formation and transformation of
the ...
