We propose a new method that enhances automatic keyphrase extraction by using semantic information on terms and phrases gleaned from a domain-specific thesaurus. We evaluate the results against keyphrase sets assigned by a state-of-the-art keyphrase extraction system and those assigned by six professional indexers.
This paper presents an optimal fiscal policy response to address the basic trade-off between the automatic stabilisation properties of budgets and the long run fiscal positions. The framework is an overlapping generations model la Weil (1989), extended to account for stochastic endowments and borrowing constrained households. A benign government chooses over the optimal degree of responsiveness of net taxes to individual incomes, an optimal measure of long-run public debt, or both, in order to smooth households' consumption across states of nature. In the presence of a deficit constraint for the government, the results unambiguously point to the desire for lower debt levels than those currently prevailing in order to enable a more effective hedging of personal income uncertainty by means of more active fiscal stabilisers. In naturalistic interpersonal settings, mimicry or "automatic imitation" generates liking, affiliation, cooperation and other positive social attitudes. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the relationship between social attitudes and mimicry is bidirectional: Do social attitudes have a direct and specific effect on mimicry? Participants were primed with pro-social, neutral or anti-social words in a scrambled sentence task. They were then tested for mimicry using a stimulus-response compatibility procedure. In this procedure, participants were required to perform a pre-specified movement (e.g. opening their hand) on presentation of a compatible (open) or incompatible (close) hand movement. Reaction time data were collected using electromyography (EMC) and the magnitude of the mimicry/automatic imitation effect was calcula...
The European Space Agency (ESA) uses an engine to perform tests in the Ground Segment infrastructure, specially the Operational Simulator. This engine uses many different tools to ensure the development of regression testing infrastructure and these tests perform black-box testing to the C++ simulator implementation. VST (VisionSpace Technologies) is one of the companies that provides these services to ESA and they need a tool to infer automatically tests from the existing C++ code, instead of writing manually scripts to perform tests. With this motivation in mind, this paper explores automatic testing approaches and tools in order to propose a system that satisfies VST needs.
The automatic recognition of spoken words is increasingly common, for dictaphone applications, telephone services or the command of various devices by disabled persons. In the latter case, a high recognition rate is expected on a vocabulary of small to medium size. To achieve this goal, the model must be refined. Thus, both the training stage and the recognition stage for such applications can be very time consuming and occasional re-training may happen. Its parallelization is thus worth considering. In this paper we present firstly the models we use: the classical hidden Markov model and another model that takes into account the prosody of speech, namely the centisecond two-level hidden Markov model introduced by Meziane [10]. Then two parallelization strategies are detailed: the first one simply shares the vocabulary among the proces...
We give characterizations of unital uniform topological algebras and saturated locally multiplicatively convex algebras by means of multiplicative linear functionals. Some automatic continuity theorems in advertibly complete uniform topological algebras are extended to a larger class of algebras. Consequences and applications are given.
A great number of systems can only be described by models established through the statistical analysis of empirical data. Classical approaches, like regression methods, can be used when the data are quantitative. Discriminant analysis, or pattern recognition methods, are well suited for those cases in which the output data are qualitative or symbolic, and the input data are quantitative. the problem is then to find regions in the parameter space Âp, in which the entropy of the output data is as low as possible. When both the output and the input data are qualitative, automatic learning algorithms have to be designed. Those algorithm generates rules which describe the input/output behaviour of the system, as it can be induced from the observed data. The learning set of data is said to be coherent when a set of deterministic rules can be ...
