The objective of the study is to extend the emerging body and scope of research on consumer’s attitudinal and behavioral responses to online consumer reviews by examining the role of both message content and source characteristics. That is, this study investigates how consumers process online consumer reviews within the context of message and source characteristics, and how these two factors influence consumer’s attitudes toward the review, attitudes toward the product, perceived credibility of the reviewers, and purchase intention. From this perceptive, the study broadens the understanding and importance of message and source factors to the persuasiveness of online consumer reviews.

During a discussion with the head of the software infrastructure team about the need for software architecture practices at Temple-Inland Company, the manager responded by noting since the company is not a software development company “there are no real benefits to implementing software development practices in the company”. This is an approach taken by many companies whose software development activity is primarily undertaken to support business activities such as the case with manufacturing or financial companies. This paper examines the process of implementing software architectural practices into an organization. The information contained here should be useful to small startup software companies who might assume that it is too costly to incorporate software architectural practices into their current development process. This paper...
With a full house in attendance, Dr. Stuart Reichler (Plant Biology) used scenes from the 1997 science fiction movie Gattaca as a springboard for discussing issues of nature vs. nurture, biometrics, and security, and the human need to classify and categorize other humans. Reichler and audience members also reflected on the technology in the story in light of recent developments in embryology.
The largest percentage of mortality from tobacco smoking is cardiovascular-related. It is not known whether regular participation in exercise mitigates the adverse influence of smoking on vasculature. The purpose of this study is to determine if regular aerobic exercise is associated with reduced arterial stiffness in young men who are cigarette smokers. Using a cross-sectional observational study design, the sample included 78 young men (22±5 years) with the following classification: sedentary smokers (n=12); physically active smokers (n=25); sedentary non-smokers (n=20); and physically active non-smokers (n=21). Arterial stiffness was assessed by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). There were no group differences in height, body fatness, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. As expected, both physically active groups demonst...

This research assessed the role of Hatha yoga in the modulation of vascular health. In study one, Hatha yoga practitioners were compared to sedentary controls to whom they were matched for age and body mass index. Practitioners of Hatha yoga were no different from sedentary individuals in terms of arterial stiffness or vascular endothelial function. Yoga practitioners possessed lower HbA1c (P < 0.05) levels and lower pulse pressure (P < 0.05) than their sedentary counterparts. Practitioners of Hatha yoga had lower body fat percentages, but this observed trend did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.052). In study two, a 12-week Hatha yoga intervention resulted in reductions in HbA1c levels (P < 0.05) and total cholesterol (P < 0.05) in previously sedentary adults. No changes were observed in carotid artery compliance or brachial ...
