Die kwailiteit van mout word bepaal deur die graad van substraathidrolise gedurende ontkieming, wat dien as fermenteerbare substraat vir alkoholiese fermentasie tydens verbrouing. Dit is dikwels moeilik om ʼn konstante, hoë gehalte, moutproduk te lewer as gevolg van variasie in mout en die swak ontkiemingsvermoë van dormante gars. In many industrial fermentation processes, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast should ideally meet two partially conflicting demands. During fermentation a high suspended yeast count is of paramount importance to maintain a rapid fermentation rate, whilst efficient flocculation should ideally be initiated only on completion of the primary alcoholic fermentation, so as to enhance product clarification and recovery. Most commercial wine yeast strains are non-flocculent, probably because this trait was counter-selected to avoid fermentation problems. This study project sets out to examine the validity of an idea - an idea to create a study-abroad programme complemented by combining studies with mission work for Christian university undergraduates. In support of this idea, this study researches the overwhelming arguments that would validate the programme. The study then looks into how the programme can be designed and what its desired focus should be. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study investigates the efforts of stakeholders in a regional innovation system (RIS) to reconstruct the system to enable the development of the nascent biotechnology industry in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Various institutions and organisations played a crucial role in effecting these changes. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Kruising-simmetrie beskryf ’n verband tussen verstrooiings- en vernietigingsprosesse. Die afleiding daarvan binne die raamwerk van steuringsteorie is eenvoudig: dit behels bloot die omruil van ingaande en uitgaande toestande in die Feynman-diagram.
