Intensive international business research has already been done on knowledge, networking and strategic orientation, with regard to what shapes innovation performance. The intention of this heuristic study was to explore and discover the essence of the positive influence of the natural environment on the human spirit. The study quest was identified as a central concern that evolved from my personal experience of spiritual awakening in the natural environment and an interest in the concept of connectedness in nursing care and practice. The study also focused on the self of the nurse and the qualities of holistic nursing care.

historical knowledge as something apart from the kind of knowledge generated in the
sciences. This has given rise to a myriad of epistemological issues. For if historical
knowledge is not related to the scientific, then what is it? By what logic does it proceed? How
are historical conclusions justified? Although almost the entirety of contemporary
philosophy of history has been dedicated to such questions, there has been little real and

This research paper aims to explore the contribution of the Strengths Perspective (hereafter known as S P) to mental health nursing practice. The S P emerged from the area of social work and is primarily concerned with emphasising the strengths and resources of the person, as they define them. The premise is that if a person is able to identify and call on those strengths then he or she is able to improve the quality of their life. The paper outlines the historical, philosophical and moral foundations of the Strengths Perspective and discusses the humanistic approach to mental health nursing. This thesis is about caring for males, especially those males who could be considered "difficult" to care for through their use of behaviours such as silence, anger or defensive humour. This thesis is positioned in the view that these behaviours are often expressions of distress, which typically distance males from those who attempt to care for them. Hence the word "distress" more accurately reflects the theme of the thesis and is used throughout the work.

This thesis is the result not of any specific idea gained from a general study of the period under review; rather it is based upon the research and work done on an earlier project, a provincial history of Taranaki, which, concentrating mainly on the eighteen-seventies, culminated in the abolition struggle and the years immediately following. However, the detailed study of the provincial economy, its politics in both the provincial and central government spheres, and the political attitudes of the local press, accompanied by a general coverage of the politics of the central government throughout the decade, led to the conclusion that in one province at least, the politics of the period were economically based - around the focal point of Sir Julius Vogel's 1870 public works and immigration policy. Pain and fear of pain are major concerns for many hospitalised patients. Nurses need to understand this pain, and be able to assess and manage it effectively. Despite advances in knowledge and an increased amount of nursing research related to pain management, literature continues to identify that infants, children and adolescents continue to experience unrelieved pain post surgery. Contemporary literature suggests that nurses’ knowledge and attitudes towards pain affects their pain management practices. Nurses in small regional hospitals often don’t have the support of paediatric pain specialists and therefore rely on their own knowledge, education and experience to manage the pain of the infants, children and adolescents in their care.

Strategies are required to increase recruitment to this less popular area of nursing to ensure that a high quality of care is provided for people suffering from mental illness. The World Health Organisation (2004) is aware that this area of health has been neglected and that it is time to promote mental health.
