Abstract: Noise can produce an undesired physiological or psychological response in an individual and it has implications in chronic mental and physical health. This study´s purpose was to confirm the relationship between hospital noise and patients´ wellbeing, trough a descriptive design. It was performed in 84 patients (59.5 % male and 40.5 % female) admitted in three medical/surgical care units of a Portuguese hospital (CHBV, EPE). The questionnaire was composed by three parts: one regarding to socio-demographic and clinical data, other assessing the patient´s noise perception - the Environmental Comfort Questionnaire from Cunha and Silva (2012) - and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) by Watson, Clark and Tellegen (1988), Portuguese version from Galinha and Pais-Ribeiro (2005). The results showed that: Clinica...
Abstract Cities present themselves as facilitators of poles globalized world societies as a result of its social, economic and political, are characterized by strong cultural beliefs and behavior promotion and consumer trends, finding themselves in a competitive environment for attracting public, residents, entrepreneurs, students and visitors. The city marketing strategy allows the adequacy of existing resources, for sustainable development of cities by attracting a wide audience in this competitive environment. Through the analysis of city marketing strategies and communication of the cities of Lyon (France), Madrid (Spain) and Nyköping (Sweden), verified the importance of coordination of various media in the communication process, based on the experiential dimension as a means success in promoting the city's identity. The high moisture content of pears (about 80 %) results in a high degree of shrinkage when drying takes place which strongly affects the fruit structure and quality. The aim of the present work was to study the shrinkage characteristics of pears during air drying, by evaluating their dimensions and volume along the drying process and by predicting particle and bulk densities as well as porosity as a function of material moisture content. The latter properties were estimated using a mathematical model available from literature whose parameters were either directly measured or determined by fitting some of the equations of the proposed model to the experimental data. The results predicted were subsequently validated by independent measurements.
In the present work the moisture content and density of pears of the variety D. Joaquina were evaluated along drying, for whole pears and pear halves, and the experimental data were fitted to a theoretical model for prediction of bulk porosity. From the results obtained it was possible to conclude that the porosity of pears is very close to zero for high moisture contents and increases as moisture is removed from the pears until it reaches about 11 %, for totally dry sample. From the present study was still possible to verify the strong linearity between specific volume and moisture content, and also the exponential increase of porosity along the drying process.
The aim of this work was to develop a new food product from a well known product made with olive oil, the vinaigrette, which was innovated through texturing. The main goal was to create an original product that is hoped to fulfil the consumers needs and expectations. After preparing the product, making chemical analysis, texture profile analysis, sensory analysis and a market research, it was found that the product was very creative and valued. The majority of the potential consumers enquired revealed that the product characteristics are very appealing and these were also valued in sensorial terms by the panellists who tasted the product. Therefore, and in view of the preliminary results, these indicate that this product in its present form could be well accepted by the consumers.
ABSTRACT Background: Current scientific evidence is unanimous as to the importance of compliance with self-care activities in diabetics in order to minimize the appearance of complications. Thus, understanding diabetics’ satisfaction with health services and the impact this has on the management of the treatment regimen becomes mandatory in the transition of health systems from response to acute disease to response to chronic disease. Objectives: To monitor the self-care activities of diabetics at the Ílhavo Health Centre. To assess satisfaction with health services and discover their impact on self-care activities. Methods: Descriptive study carried out on a sample of 84 diabetics, mostly female (52.4%), 67 years of age with the 1st key stage of primary education. Bastos and Lopes’ (2004) Portuguese version of the "Summary...
