It takes proper care and maintenance to keep trees healthy and safe. This is a guide toward that objective.
It has been said that a tree is not planted until it has been in the ground five years. This is especially true in Nebraska, where trees are sometimes difficult to grow.
The temperature dependence of the training effect is studied in an exchange coupled thin-film bilayer composed of a hard ferromagnetic pinning (CoPtCrB) layer in proximity of a soft ferromagnetic pinned (CoCr) layer. Interlayer exchange shifts the hysteresis loops of the soft layer along the magnetic-field axis. This shift is quantified by the bias field in far reaching analogy to the exchange bias field of conventional antiferromagnetic/ferromagnetic heterostructures. A ferromagnetic domain state induced in the hard layer experiences aging very similar to the training behavior of the antiferromagnetic domain state in conventional exchange bias systems. Training originates from changes in the spin structure of the pinning layer with consecutive magnetization reversals of the pinned layer. Here we perform a detailed investigation of the...
This guide discusses types of trees, tree species, cut tree care, offers tips on decorating trees, considers tree disposal and laws governing the display of Christmas trees, and suggests a proper type of tree stand.
Introduction
Christmas trees have been a tradition in the United States since the Revolutionary War, when homesick Hessian soldiers decorated fir trees as was their custom in Germany. Since then the custom has spread. It is now difficult for many people to imagine Christmas without the Christmas tree tradition.
To insure a safe and happy holiday, you need to know a few things about selecting and caring for Christmas trees.
We report on the activities of the “QCD Tools for heavy flavors and new physics searches” working group of the Run II Workshop on QCD and Weak Bosons. The contributions cover the topics of improved parton showering and comparisons of Monte Carlo programs and resummation calculations, recent developments in Pythia, the methodology of measuring backgrounds to new physics searches, variable flavor number schemes for heavy quark electro-production, the underlying event in hard scattering processes, and the Monte Carlo MCFM for NLO processes.
This NebGuide is about gathering and growing seeds for shrubs.
Growing shrubs from seed is educational and fun. Many shrub species are not available commercially, so gathering seed and growing your own plants may be the only way to get them. Interesting or unusual shrubs from a neighbor's yard or from the wild can be propagated from seed. Shrubs started from seed also may be less expensive than commercially produced seedlings.
Windbreaks are an integral part of many farms and ranches and provide critical protection for farmsteads, livestock and crops. Unfortunately, many windbreaks planted in the 1930s and 1940s are losing their effectiveness due to age, poor health or neglect. In some cases, the windbreak no longer has the necessary density to provide winter protection. In other cases, overcrowding may have reduced the health and vigor of the windbreak, or the windbreak may have been invaded by aggressive sod-forming grasses such as smooth brome, reducing tree growth. Whatever the reason, many older windbreaks need renovation.
This paper is concerned with a semi-infinite interfacial crack between two bonded dissimilar elastic strips with equal thickness. Solutions for the complex stress intensity factor (SIF) and energy release rate (ERR) are obtained in closed form under in-plane deformations. During the procedure, the mixed boundary-value problem is reduced by means of the conformal mapping technique to the standard Riemann–Hilbert problem. In some limiting cases, the present solutions can cover the results found in literature.
A method for the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination of nicarbazin uptake and excretion in ducks is presented. The method uses few clean-up steps and provides a rapid assessment of nicarbazin excretion by measuring the analyte 4,4’-dinitrocarbanalide (DNC). During method development the effect of extraction volume, number of extractions, mobile phase composition, column temperature, and injection volume were varied to optimize sensitivity and achieve as short a run time as possible. For our purposes, a 2 x 5.0 ml 1:1 dimethyl formamide (DMF):acetonitrile (ACN) extraction injected (40 ml) into an HPLC system equipped with a Keystone octadecylsilyl (ODS) C column and a UV 18 variable wavelength detector (λ =347 nm) with a mobile phase of 60:40 (v/v) ACN–H O, at a flow-rate of 1.0 ml/min at a 2 column temperature o...
Much evidence documents that individuals with emotional and drug-use disorders demonstrate biased attention toward stimuli associated with their disorder. This bias appears to diminish following successful treatment. Two studies examined whether current cigarette smokers show biased attention toward smoking-related images compared with non-smokers (Studies 1 and 2) and whether this bias is less pronounced in former smokers (Study 2). Attentional bias toward cigarette-related photographs was examined using the dot-probe task. Pairs of images (one smoking-related) appeared side by side for 500 ms on a computer screen prior to the presentation of a probe (an asterisk) replacing one of the photographs. Subjects struck a key as quickly as possible to indicate the probe location. Attentional bias was defined as faster reaction times when the...
ABOUT THE TEST REPORT AND USE OF THE DATA
The test data contained in this report are a tabulation of the results of a series of tests. Due to the restricted format of these pages, only a limited amount of data and not all of the tractor specifications are included. The full OECD report contains usually about 30 pages of data and specifications. The test data were obtained for each tractor under similar conditions and therefore, provide a means of comparison of performance based on a limited set of reported data.
EXPLANATION OF THE TEST PROCEDURES
Purpose
The purpose of the tests in this booklet, and available test reports is to provide users with data for comparisons of performance among tractor models.
General
Tractors are tested at the University of Nebraska according to test procedures of the OECD (Organization of Economic Cooperati...
